Watch local teens compete in newly re-opened Scoville Park! Winners will advance to the regional competition in July. All band members are between 12 and 20 years of age.

Location: Scoville Park, 800 Lake St.
Rain location: Stevenson Center, 49 Lake St.

June 1, 2013 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Blast all opponents and prove you're the best brawler in town! DDR and other games will be available too. Come for the pizza, stay for the prizes.

You must be 13-18 to enter the tournament. Registration begins Monday, June 3.

Originally published to wide critical acclaim in France where it drew companisons to Art Spiegelman's "Maus," this graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi is a wise, funny and heartbreaking memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Experience powerful black-and-white comic strip images and read the story of Satrapi's life in Tehran from ages 6 to 14. This young girl saw the overthrow of the Shah's regime, the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, and the devastating effects of war with Iraq. You'll also view portions of the film version of this book.

This graphic novel is just one aspect of "Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys" received with a grant from the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). "Muslim Journeys" includes a collection of 25 books and four DVDs, available for check-out.

Sign up and dance at the Dole Branch Library. Our giant screen has every beat for every move. Each group will compete against each other for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate. The only requirement is to dance, dance, and dance. For Oak Park card holders only. Best for ages 9-12 years old. At the library's fifth annual chess tournament, students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to compete for trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Preregistration at 452-3440 begins July 1st. A side tournament will be held for parents, coaches, and adults (with no registration required).
