Beauty Queens

Author/Artist:
Libba Bray

From bestselling, Printz Award-winning author Libba Bray, the story of a plane of beauty pageant contestants that crashes on a desert island.

Teen beauty queens. A "Lost"-like island. Mysteries and dangers. No access to emall. And the spirit of fierce, feral competition that lives underground in girls, a savage brutality that can only be revealed by a journey into the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Oh, the horror, the horror! Only funnier. With evening gowns. And a body count.

Review:

I REALLY enjoyed this. Wow. So... It's about a bunch of teenage girls, in a beauty pageant, that crash (by plane) on a mysterious island. Most of their stuff is gone, they have no food, and no means of contact whatsoever. (I guess they do have a broken radio, but that's beside the point). So the girls have to show their skills, and the characters really blossom into people you really wouldn't imagine them being. But the book is more than that. Pretty much everything that you encounter while reading, including the pageant itself, is run by "The Corporation", which is a Consumer-based company that makes almost everything under the sun. As you read, you find out it's corrupt... like really corrupt. The whole society is corrupt. for that matter. LIbba does a wonderful job with writing it. It's so serious, and any other author would make it plain and boring. But LIbba adds little eency-weency sarcastic bits and hilarious characters (MoMo B. ChaCha, for example) to it to make it SO FUNNY, YOU CAN'T STAND IT. So... my new favorite book. Way to go. :)
